New events at the bar and no cover all weekend long
Fetish Friday
March 21
Front bar opens at noon
Back bar opens at 7 p.m.
Clothes check opens at 9 p.m.
Staff members at the legendary Cell Block are gearing up for a big weekend of fun, new events at the historic LGBTQ+ leather and kink space.
“We’ve just recovered and restocked from a robust Saint Patrick’s Day weekend. Now we’re turning around and doing it again for another packed weekend minus a few of the holiday crowd amateurs,” Cell Block general manager Joe Hoffman explains.
First on the agenda is Frisky Friday, a loose, fun party where folks can celebrate wearing their favorite fetish gear — or maybe a little less — in the bar’s backroom and club space.
“Fridays at the bar are awesome because there’s plenty of pent up energy from folks who are letting their hair down from a long workweek. Match that with the regulars and our beloved pups, freaks, and folks looking for a good time and it gets pretty hot,” Hoffman says.
TRASH’D DIRTY HOUSE MUSIC DANCE PARTY
March 22
Front bar opens at noon
TRASH’D opens/back bar opens at 9 p.m.
Clothes check opens at 9 p.m.
Saturday marks the first return of Hoffman’s favorite event, TRASH’D, a dance party for folks who cannot get enough house music in their ears.
“There’s nothing else like Trash’d happening in any LGBTQ+ nightlife venue anywhere in Chicago,” Hoffman explains.
“Trash’d is a sweaty, sexy love letter to house music fans and the people who love to forget their cares and dance all night to original, dirty, old school Chicago house music. I’m proud to help make it happen inside the backroom bar and club space at the legendary Cell Block,” he says.
TRASH’D made its debut at Cell Block back in January. Hoffman expects TRASH’D to continue growing in reputation as a house head getaway. And this go round, he’s added more entertainers.
“We’re bringing back Nevin,” a Chicago nightlife veteran DJ and a Cell Block mainstay. And this time I’m thrilled to bring out Milty Evans who has a sparkling track record of moving feet to the dance floor with his creativity and DJ talents,” Hoffman beams.
Sunday Bunday Special Delivery Package & Bulge Contest
80s Cruise Backroom Dance Party
March 23
Front bar opens at noon
Sunday Bunday opens/Back bar opens at 3 p.m.
Clothes check opens at 3 p.m.
Cell Block has been a gay destination on Sundays since Sunday Bunday, a weekly cruising social started back in 2018. This week, Sunday Bunday is launching another in a series of new themed parties.
“Fourth Sundays starting March 23 will be 80s Cruise at Sunday Bunday,” shares Zack Hudson, Sunday Bunday creator and Cell Block’s veteran bartender.
The 80s Cruise sets sail when Sunday Bunday opens at 3 p.m. Hudson will supply a hot 80s music mix until Sunday Bunday resident DJs Harry T and Nevin come on about 5:30.
The jockstrap, underwear, and fetish gear social will also debut a new contest this week.
“We’re calling it Special Delivery. It’s a contest for packages and bulges,” Hudson says with an eyebrow cocked and a sly smile.
All packages and bulges are welcome to enter Special Delivery, which will have multiple categories and be judge by the audience according to Hudson.
“The categories are hairiest, thickest, longest, best sack, and cutest. There will also be a fan favorite overall winner,” Hudson explains.
The cutest category comes from Hudson’s desire to be inclusive, he says.
“Some packages and bulges are no less memorable despite their God dictated proportions. I’ve rarely seen a package or bulge that I don’t like. So the cutest category is for folks who are proud to show off despite lacking certain measurements,” he says.
“Confidence is immeasurable anyway,” Hudson says with a smile.
Special Delivery will be hosted this month by Leather Daddy Blue (Instagram: @leather.daddy.blue)
All the category winners and the overall winner will be awarded prizes Sunday according to Hudson.
